Queen Tribute

Queen only.

The Queens are a tribute band playing all the best hits form one of the biggest and most popular bands this country has produced, Queen. The show includes all the costumes from the famously flamboyant front man Freddie Mercury and all the guitar licks form the world famous and highly talented Brian May reproduced note for note.

There is only one way to check out the quality of this act and that is to see them perform live. If you can't get out to view them live we offer the next best thing - call our office to have a copy of the bands CD ROM sent over. This CD ROM contains just under 15 minutes of live video footage shot at the Hythe Waterside festival summer 2004, attended by approx. 4000 people, who all loved the show! The video quality is not of the highest standard, but the film gives a much better idea of performance than photos and audio tracks can. Take a look at "Freddie's" moves!

Formed five years ago, "The Queens" are a five piece band featuring the talents of Colin Hemmings as Freddie Mercury, Mark Littlehales (Brian May), Jem Harris (Roger Taylor), Tom White (John Deacon) and last but by no means least, Paul Wolf as Queen's unsung keyboard wizard Spike Edney

Freddie Mercury has been the singer in bands for most of his life but he has concentrated for the last 4-5 years on the Queen tribute band and has put a lot of effort into finding costumes to wear and even having to go as far as getting some made
Equipment: radio mic and half a mic stand

Brian May has been playing in different heavy metal bands for most of his playing life and has also been a guitar teacher. It had been his life long ambition to be in a Queen Tribute band and was over the moon when he found he was going to be in one
Equipment: Gibson Les Paul guitar and Fender strat, Vox amplifiers, Vox effects unit

Roger Taylor has been playing drums for 13 years. He has played on numerous projects covering various styles of music and has graced the stages of Earls Court, The Jazz Café and Bournemouth International Centre. He has played support gigs for The Average White Band, Jools Holland, Courduroy, James Taylor Quartet and Gil Scott Heron. He joined 'The queens' a year ago.
Equipment: Drum kit.

John Deacon his last band was a glam rock covers band and had been touring round Sweden but when the band split up he decided to join the Queens as he had always been a big Queen fan
Equipment: Fender precision, Westone Thunder 1a, Peavey Bass Amplifier

Spike Edney: Accomplished pianist who has started out with the Queens as the keyboard player covering the music he has always loved
Equipment: Roland RD-170 digital piano, Korg N364 synth, Yamaha CS1X synth, Roland keyboard amplifier.

The band also has their own lighting and PA equipment.

Southampton Institute's 'Havit' monthly magazine

"A kind of magic occurred at the union on the 26th February when the Queen tribute band 'The Queens' exploded on stage at the top bar. Wigs, sparkling crowns and Union Jacks were all on display. It was definitely a night of entertainment. They played a full set of songs by the legends and did not fail to entertain the venue packed with students. The atmosphere was amazing with a collection of live music, who could actually fault it. The band opened with 'One Vision' and instantly set the bar alight, the lead singer put on an astounding performance, his personality energised the room and the talents of the band complimented his voice. As the set continued people began to dance or should I say 'head bang'. Everyone sang along, mesmerized by the performance. The Lead guitarist could have been mistaken for the miraculous Brian May himself, his rendition of the guitar solo in Bohemian Rhapsody was immaculate. Supported by bass guitarist Tom the songs were flawless. The youngest member of the band Paul did not fail to show a lifetime of experience on the keyboards. While the newest member of the band, Jem put in a solid and confident performance as the great Roger Taylor. The band has been running for five years and according to the members it's bossiest Queener is the lead singer 'Freddie', 'He is definitely the bossy one but Tom is the organiser'. The group have a busy few months ahead with fifteen future gigs lined up already. The boys obviously enjoy performing as drummer Jem said, 'We do it for the love of the music'. With all their success the boys still keep their feet on the ground. This is the second time the band have played at the Union and they only have praises, as Freddie said. ' It always goes down well, they know all the old songs which is great'. Well the band dubbing us their favourite venue and two encores on the night the union will definitely be asking them to return again!!!"

Official International Queen Fan club review of live video.
They were extremely impressive, great sound and show. We won't hesitate to book them for the next Fan Club event.
Jacky Smith - Official International Queen Fan club

The Wedgewood rooms - Portsmouth 2nd Sept 2005 - attendance 350
Appearing for the first time at the wedge wood rooms, this group was simply outstanding. When Colin Hemmings emerged, clad in white trainers, trousers and vest, and later in the performance in the crown and cape, he was Freddie Mercury. All of the Queen hits were played to perfection, and the evening finished with 'I want to break free'. Freddie came on clad in stockings and high heels, pushing a vacuum cleaner, as the video, fantastic.
This is not a show to miss if they visit again.
Micheal Southwell - article in Portsmouth news 9/9/05

Portsmouth University Freshers ball - 3rd Oct 2004 - attendance - 1450
The 'Queens' performance was outstanding; those guys are one of the best tributes available. Their sound was
authentic and their look was spot on. 'Freddie' had several costume changes the entire band were in character. They were very easy to work with and carried themselves with a high level of professionalism. If you are looking for top quality entertainment for any event you need look no further than these guys.
Richard Dore-Dennis Portsmouth University Student Union Events Manager

Round Table charity event - Burnham on Crouch Essex - 9th July 2005 - attendance 700
Thank you for the superb show, every body had a fantastic time and we had many compliments about how good you were. 'Freddie' was just out of this world, the way he played the audience; the great man himself would have been impressed. This was the fifth year of these charity events, and our first one to sell out in advance,. I have thanked
Jackie at the Queen fan club for recommending you, but am left with a bit of a dilemma, how on earth do I top the Queens performance at next years event?
Chris Fugeman - Chairman - Dengie Hundred Round Table.

The Brook - Southampton 30th Dec 2005 - attendance 500
Thanks for a fantastic show, Colin as 'Freddie' was a real star, the place was full and everyone had a great night. We've had many enquiries as to when you are coming back, and look forward to your next appearance in May.
Bryn Lewis - Owner

Waterside Arts Festival - open air concert - 10th July 2004 - attendance 4000

Ray Varney - Event organizer

The Weary Traveler , Collumpton - 23 April 2005 - attendance 500
Many thanks to you for performing with such great enthusiasm and commitment and reproducing the original Queen sound. You are by far the best Queen tribute we have seen, and the number of compliments we had on the night was a testament to the quality of your performance. The atmosphere was wonderful as 'Freddie' strutted his stuff around the bar, faithfully recreating the mannerisms of the late great man himself. The two sets covered all the bands hits,
ensuring everyone got the chance to sing along, while the atmosphere during 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and 'Radio Ga Ga' was especially electric! It was a great night and we hope to book you again soon.
Steve Hardaker Manager

Bishopstoke club, Eastleigh - 7th May 2005 - attendance 350
I am writing to say how much we enjoyed the performance by the Queens; a great evening was had by all. They are the best Queen tribute I have seen. Colin as Freddie Mercury was is a true star, getting the crowd involved and using typical 'Freddie' showman ship. The sound was perfect, and the whole band looked the part, and with such a charismatic front man they are perfect for any occasion. I would have no hesitation in recommending this band to anyone and with luck I am hoping to book them in again soon.
John Stevenson - Entertainment officer

The music and showmanship was fantastic, and the fact that you all enjoy performing came across really well with

absolutely brilliant evening and I look forward to seeing you in the club again soon.
Simon Burrell - Entertainments Committee
